Bring your dog to the Pet Parade at the Capitol Market this Saturday,.
The Capitol Market will have a pet filled fun time next weekend, August 3rd and 4th. Starting on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. there will be a pet parade. Animal Rescues will be present? on both days with information about pets available for adoption. Vendors will have pet related items for sale with a poriton of the proceeds designated to help homeless animals.
A word of caution?the Capitol Market is notorious for allowing the sale of live animals including puppies from backyard breeders and puppy mills. Adopt form a reputable adoption or rescue organization and do not support these people who have no love or care for the well-being of animals. I was approached at the market this past weekend by a man who had a very young puppy with matted eyes and a runny nose and he wanted to sell the puppy for $200.00 Chances are the mother of this dog has never been out of a cage and forced to bear litter after litter of puppies.
If you plan to shop at the market, leave you dog?at home or take them with you on a leash. DO NOT PLAN TO LEAVE THEM IN THE CAR.?There were 2 dogs in a very hot car with a?small cracked window this past weekend. Thanks to the quick announcement I asked the snack shop to make, the owner was located and?despite?her?defensive attitude, the dogs were spared suffering a heatstroke. They were showing three of the obvious?signs of heat distress; excessive panting, salivation, and extreme agitation.
Pets are part of the family. If you bring them to enjoy the festivities,?make sure to have water to keep them hydrated. Contact Jeanteet Karnes for mor information at? 304-548-5703 or 304-982-2761.

These poor dogs were hot and in danger of heatstroke when their owner left them in the car Sunday at the Capitol Flea Market.
